The Immigration (Health Charge) (Amendment) Order 2024 passed into law on 16 January 2024 and will come into effect on 6 February 2024. This increases the rate of Immigration Health Surcharge from £624 per year to £1,035 per year. For children, the rate is increasing from £470 per year to £776 per year. These increases reflect the announcements made late last year. Therefore, they are not a surprise but still will not be welcome news for migrants as it will greatly increase the cost of visa applications.
This increase will apply to applications made on or after 6 February 2024 and will apply to existing migrants as well as those coming to UK for the first time. Where possible, migrants should consider submitting applications prior to 6 February in order to avoid the increase in costs.
