Associate Director, Brendan Martyn is appointed as the NI Trustee of UKELA

During the AGM as part of the UKELA (United Kingdom Environmental Law Association) Annual Conference 2021, UKELA announced the results of its Council elections, appointing a number of candidates. One of which, was Cleaver Fulton Rankin’s Associate Director, Brendan Martyn, who has been formally elected as the NI Trustee. Brendan will take forward this position succeeding the firm’s, Chairman & Director, Karen Blair, who served the maximum term of 8 years.

Cleaver Fulton Rankin has a longstanding association with UKELA, with lawyers from our team actively serving on the Council, with the responsibility of supporting UKELA in achieving its strategic and charitable aims. UKELA appoint trustees, referred to as the Council, from a wide ranging membership, representing all sectors of environmental law, including from barristers to academics, with a range of experience and expertise.

Brendan Martyn is an Associate Director within the Planning & Environment team at Cleaver Fulton Rankin. Originally called to the Bar of Ireland in 2008, Brendan was subsequently transferred to the Roll of Solicitors in Northern Ireland, England & Wales and the Republic of Ireland. Brendan specialises in all aspects of contentious and non-contentious planning and environmental law across a wide spectrum of sectors to include energy and renewables, retail, aggregate and mineral extraction, commercial property and public law.

UKELA is the UK forum, aiming to achieve best practice in environmental law, whilst also improving the understanding and awareness of environmental law. As both a registered charity and a limited company, UKELA encourage collaboration between those interested in environmental law and in advising on current issues. UKELA’s charitable objectives include promoting the enhancement and conservation of the environment in the UK, whilst also advancing the education of the public in relation to environmental law.

The UKELA Annual Conference 2021 took place from 14 to 18 June, with a week of content covering the latest topics in the environmental law field. Topics have included environmental regulation post Brexit; biodiversity & rewilding; climate change and litigation; climate science; specialised environmental; courts and tribunals; and more.
